Music can define a city. In fact, this country is filled with musical cities that have given us the wonderful genres of music we know and love today. You can thank Seattle for gifting us with Grunge and the genius that is Nirvana. Nashville is the heart and soul of the Country Music industry. Sweet Home Chicago is known for their Gospel and Blues (especially those ‘Babysitting Blues’). Then there’s Miami—which became the birthplace of booty bass in the mid-1980’s.
However, Miami is not only known for giving us artists like 2 Live Crew and Trick Daddy. It has established itself as a musical city that is just as multicultural and vibrant as the people who live there. Whether you’re into Latin music, Hip-Hop, EDM, Indie or even POP, there are always shows in Miami to satisfy everyone’s musical palette.
Since there are few experiences more exciting and emotional than a live music event, here are a few summer shows to check out in the Greater Miami Area.
ON THE RUN TOUR: JAY-Z & BEYONCE
JUNE 25—SUN LIFE STADIUM
Move over “KIMYE” because true American royalty is heading to Miami. On Wednesday night, the ROC will be in the building (or in this case, the stadium) with Her Majesty, Queen B. Mr. & Mrs. Carter will be kicking off their On The Run Tour at Sun Life Stadium and it is not to be missed. Predicted to be one of the most successful tours of 2014, this concert will be one of the hottest tickets in Miami since the NBA Finals.
THE PRISMATIC WORLD TOUR: KATY PERRY
JULY 3—AMERICAN AIRLINES ARENA
If playful pop music is your thing, then check out Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour on July 3. Whether you’re in the mood for a girls night out or looking for family fun with the kids, this pop princess is sure to deliver an entertaining night full of over-the-top production, outrageous costumes and of course, her best hits.
JULY 12—THE FILLMORE MIAMI BEACH
For those of you have never heard of Ray LaMontagne, listen up because it’s about time you get familiar with this Indie singer-songwriter. Known for his hits “Trouble” and “Till The Sun Turns Black,” LaMontagne’s melodies are a sweet blend of Blues and Folk Rock. He’ll be performing at the historic Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater next month. Do yourself a favor and go check him out.
DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
JULY 18 and 19—CRUZAN AMPITHEATER
It wouldn’t be summer without another Dave Matthews Band annual summer-long tour. Grab a beer and blanket and relax on the lawn of the Cruzan Amphitheater while this music takes you back to your high school and college days. For Miami-Dade residents, jamming out with DMB is certainly worth the drive up to West Palm Beach. They never disappoint!
There truly are few better ways to enjoy a summer evening than losing yourself in good music. As the saying goes, music is everywhere. All you have to do is stop and listen.
