Get ready, Miami. Summer is just around the corner, bringing sizzling heat and oppressive humidity. When you live in the sexiest city on the planet, the rising temperatures can only mean one thing: bikini weather.
Yes, it’s that time of year when Miami locals and tourists flock to the city’s tropical beaches and trendiest pool parties, clad in nothing but skimpy swimwear (perhaps a little less if you’re hanging out on South Beach). If this causes a bit of anxiety, don’t fret. Miami’s hottest fitness boutiques are delivering a workout challenge that will get your body summer-ready for a good cause: #GETPURDY.
Scheduled for June 1, this hour-long fitness event will provide a mash-up of the top workouts this city has to offer, all of which are located on Purdy Avenue. Located off the Venetian Causeway, Purdy Avenue may be small but it’s packing quite the punch with three of Miami’s top fitness studios: Flywheel, Barry’s Bootcamp and Green Monkey.
Here’s the scoop:
FLYWHEEL: This is not your typical spin class. This stadium-cycling experience includes intense climbs, sprints and descents while combining core and strength training. Each bike is equipped with a “tech-pack” displaying RPMs, Torq and overall power allowing riders to achieve the best possible performance. If you’re the competitive type, there’s the option of participating in the “Torqboard” which allows riders to race and compete against one another throughout the duration of the class. A little healthy competition never hurt anyone, right?
BARRY’S BOOTCAMP: Self-proclaimed as the “Best Workout in the World,” this fitness sensation opened up earlier in the year. Offering a kick-butt workout that combines high-intensity cardio and strength training, Barry’s has developed a long list of celebrity clientele including Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal and the Kardashians.
GREEN MONKEY: Preaching balance, Green Monkey yoga studio offers both a mentally and physically challenging experience in order to achieve peace within yourself and the world around you. A much-needed break from the cardio-packed workouts next door, yoga provides patrons an alternative way to relieve stress and anxiety while improving muscle strength and overall health.
The event will consist of 20-minute intervals of each class and is sure to bring out Miami’s fitness elite. If you need some motivation, the $50 registration fee will benefit Miami Children’s Health Foundation, whose mission is to raise money for Miami Children’s Hospital. If charity isn’t your thing, there’s an after party at Mondrian South Beach where event participants can wine, dine and consume all the guilt-free calories they just burned off. This is the perfect opportunity to get a taste of Miami’s latest fitness trends while promoting overall health and wellness for a great cause. It’s time to get summer-ready and most importantly, #GETPURDY.
