Vargas Gallery is proud to present Endless Space, a solo exhibition by Ernesto Gutiérrez Moya. Curated by Henry Ballate, Vargas University’s Art & Design Programs Coordinator, this exhibit showcases Moya’s intriguing landscape paintings. Moya’s distinctive renditions of everyday spaces create simplistic, yet well thought out compositions that engage viewers.
Ernesto Gutiérrez Moya graduated from the Academia National de Bellas Artes in San Alejandro, Cuba. There, Moya concentrated his studies in painting, engraving, and photography. The compilation of works presented in this exhibit are a culmination of Moya’s dedication and talent. This is Moya’s first solo exhibition in the states, after having his breakthrough showing in La Habana, Cuba, curated by his former professor and mentor Michel Pérez Pollo.
“His paintings deal with a reality that exists only in his mind and on the surface of the canvas. Landscapes with a side-ways sky, rain that rises, waterfalls that do not fall, shadows in places of light… also a possible reality,” explains Pollo of Moya’s subject matter. Ballate, the curator of the Vargas show explains, “Ernesto Gutiérrez paintings are affected by its surroundings and suggest an intuitive understanding of space: the essence of the landscape is sought after, and the superfluous details are discarded.”
