Imported from Rome, La Moderna, a stylish new bar, restaurant and neighborhood meeting place, opens at Sunset Harbour Shops in Miami Beach. The new location, in what has become Miami Beach’s restaurant mecca, promises to capture the spirit and energy of La Moderna’s original location in the once-working class, now fashionable Testaccio neighborhood of Rome. La Moderna offers a full menu of modern Italian dishes from la cucina (“the kitchen”), skillfully crafted cocktails and pizza.“We look forward to delivering a truly unique experience to the Miami market with our skillfully crafted interpretation of modern Italian cooking, quality libations and refined atmosphere,” says La Moderna owner Luca D’Angelo, who has also successfully owned and operated Fratelli La Bufala since 2005.

The cucina offers classic Italian dishes with a modern twist, such as Spaghetti with Osetra caviar, fresh oysters and crispy leeks and Squid-Ink Ravioli stuffed with cod and served with house-made saffron sauce, using the highest-quality local and imported ingredients.

Masterfully-crafted cocktails, including eight signature drinks inspired by movies, art and pop culture, are designed to perfectly complement the food.  Staff will offer cocktail pairing suggestions for each dish and many of the mixers, such as grenadine and orgeat, are made in house. The over-sized bar will host award-winning, guest bartenders from La Moderna’s Rome location and from across Europe.

Pizza is made using a Neapolitan flour which proofs for over 70 hours, to produce a light and airy crust. The dough is kneaded on special Carrara marble, which is considered the best surface for pizza making. All pizzas are topped with the freshest ingredients, including buffalo mozzarella (exclusively) and baked in
a Stefano Ferrara handmade brick oven.

The interior space, a contemporary interpretation of a mechanical workshop, was designed by award-winning Italian architect Roberto Liorni and features a meticulously crafted copper bar and extensive millwork which was fabricated in Italy and shipped to Miami. The whimsical art of famous Spanish illustrator Maria Corte adorns the menus and interior. The name refers to the boom in manufacturing, innovation and optimism, which occurred in Italy after World War II.

La Moderna is located in at 1874 Bay Road in the Sunset Harbour Shops, Miami Beach, Florida.
